OLD 10-09-10 - Wind Speed and Direction
Wind speed is measured with a three-cup anemometer and wind direction by a wind vane, both mechanical devices. An alternative to the cup and vane wind set is the ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor which has no moving parts and is therefore almost maintenance free.
