Magpie introduction

A versatile Windows Software package that makes the collection of data simple! ...and the display and analysis of your Environmental Data better and easier!

Magpie has been MEA's prime software program for operating custom measurement systems since 1998. Magpie offers a simple integrated environment to set up, communicate with, unload and display data from MEA measurement systems.

The aim of the software is to offer fast and effective methods of obtaining, displaying and reporting data without the need to use a variety of different software tools or manually pass data from one utility to another.

With Magpie, it all happens inside the one program and at the click of a button.

Magpie offers...

• The ability to manage large numbers of measurement systems
• "Top-up" unloading of logged data into continuous databases
• Easy navigation through databases
• Data display in table and graph format
• Export data to comma separated variable (CSV) and HTML
• Reliable logger communications including dial-up telemetry
• Scheme building and editing tools for Unidata Prologger, Starlogger and Micrologger ranges of data loggers.

Magpie is designed for the future...

Magpie is constructed in a way that allows MEA to adopt and support a range of different data logging devices. Presently, Magpie supports one type of data logger, the Unidata logger. Regardless of the data logging hardware used to record the data of interest in the future, MEA's intention is to provide the user with the same simple environment to store and display this data. By offering a standard operating environment, the prospect of managing a range of different types of hardware becomes far less daunting.

This is also extended to what Magpie can do with the stored data. Aside from powerful graphing and tabling tools, it is possible for MEA to author plug-ins for Magpie to add some industry specific functionality to a scheme and help get the data of interest in the form required with minimal effort from the user.
